Kitchen Wizardry Workshop this Saturday!

We’re thrilled to announce that Cellar Door Fungus founder Matt Kiser will be sharing his mushroom mastery at the upcoming Fungi Fest 2024! Matt’s workshop, Kitchen Wizardry: At-Home Techniques That Amplify the Medicines in Your Mushrooms, promises an engaging exploration of practical, kitchen-friendly methods to boost the medicinal power of your mushrooms.

In this hands-on workshop, Matt will demonstrate how you can use everyday kitchen tools to potentiate teas and activated infusions, making your mushroom medicines more bioavailable. He’ll also share some unique and delicious recipes for medicinal broths—perfect for the upcoming soup season.

Meet Matt Kiser

Based in Southwest Philadelphia, Matt Kiser (he/him) is a dedicated citizen scientist and mycophile whose passion for fungi spans a decade. His mycological journey has led him to connect with numerous people and places while evolving his expertise in mushroom cultivation and extraction. Specializing in aseptic lab work, Matt grows various gourmet and medicinal mushroom species and crafts concentrated extractions with care from spore to tincture. His online storefront goes live Friday, October 19th.

His experience ranges from low-tech techniques to advanced mycological methods, and his dedication to education and accessibility is at the heart of his work. He believes that making mycology approachable is essential to its potential to transform the world.

His Neuro-Anarchist Vision for the Future

Recently, Matt acquired land in coastal Maine, where he plans to establish an off-grid mushroom farmstead. His goal is to remediate the land through myco-agroforestry, demonstrating the power of fungi to restore and rejuvenate ecosystems.

Brooklyn peeps don't this chance to learn from Matt this Saturday at Fungi Fest 2024!

We are based on the ancestral home of the Lenape,  who have stewarded this land through generations.

We recognize that our presence here today is the result of the ongoing exclusions and erasures of Indigenous peoples, who were the original inhabitants of this territory.

We acknowledge the legacies of violence, displacement, migration, and disease that bring us together here.

We are committed to the ongoing understanding of our role in this history and to supporting these displaced indigenous communities in whatever way possible.
