Subtle Energy Stimming
Autistic burnout can be a heavy, debilitating weight. The emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion leaves us feeling utterly depleted, struggling to find the strength to face each day.
When even the simplest tasks feel insurmountable, I use the Mangala Charan Mantra to protect my energy stores. The mantra's ability to ward off negative energies and promote overall well-being is worth tuning into.
Mantra for Heart Protection
Aad Guray Nameh – I bow to the Primal Wisdom
Jugad Guray Nameh – I bow to the wisdom through all the Ages
Sat Guray Nameh – I bow to the True Wisdom
Siri Guru Devay Nameh – I bow to the great unseen Wisdom.
What is the Mangala Charan Mantra?
In Kundalini yoga, we frequently chant this mantra before beginning our practice, as it serves as a powerful invocation that sets the tone for our session. This mantra, considered sacred, is not merely a collection of words but a vibrational sound that resonates deeply within our being. Chanting it, we align ourselves with the energy of the sounds and prepare our minds and bodies for the transformative journey ahead.
The practice of chanting mantra is an ancient tradition. Sound and vibration were always recognized as essential components of spiritual awakening and self-discovery. The act of vocalizing the mantra helps to clear the mind of distractions, allowing practitioners to enter a state of heightened awareness and focus.
The Protective Qualities of the Mantra
The Mangala Charan Mantra is said to create a protective shield around us. Imagine the troubles and energies you encounter each day passing through you and into the wisdom of everything. They are not yours to carry. Imagine the words surrounding you and shielding you from harmful influences and negative emotions.
Mangala Charan signifies 'something we offer at the Guru's feet.' It involves opening yourself up to receive teachings not intellectually, but emotionally, thus bypassing the ego.
The Mangala Charan refers not only to the mantra ‘Aad Guray Nameh’, but actually to the opening words of a shabad, a sacred song from the holy scripture of the Sikhs. It marks the beginning of a spiritual practice by invoking divine grace and protection.
How to Invoke Protection with the Mantra
To invoke the protective qualities of the Mangala Charan Mantra during periods of burnout, you might choose to...
Chant It Out Loud: Recite the mantra aloud, focusing on the sound vibrations and the meaning of the words. At least three times is recommended, but I just chant this again and again until I am buzzing with it and I feel I am done, then close my eyes and let the energy buzz until it naturally fades out.
Silently Chant: In public? That's ok, vibrate the mantra silently to yourself, while visualizing a protective white light enveloping your body.
Recite it Frequently: Chant the mantra several times a day, especially before and after potentially stressful situations or when you feel overwhelmed.
What is Autistic Shielding?
Katie Munday, an autistic activist, coined the term "autistic shielding" to describe a protective mechanism that autistic individuals use to navigate a neurotypical world. It's a way of filtering sensory input, social interactions, and emotional experiences to manage overwhelm and maintain our well-being.
Unlike masking, which involves conforming to neurotypical expectations, shielding is about creating a personal boundary to protect oneself from the demands of the outside world. It's a way of preserving one's authentic self and reducing the impact of sensory overload and social stress.
Why Chanting?
Chanting mantras can help heal the body, protect the mind, and connect the chanter with the divine.
Mantras are sacred sounds, syllables, or words that are believed to have spiritual power. They are often repeated over and over again, either silently or aloud. Chanting mantras can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also help to improve focus, concentration, and memory. In addition, chanting mantras can help to boost the immune system and promote physical healing.
There are many different types of mantras, each with its own unique meaning and purpose. Some of the most popular mantras include the Gayatri Mantra, the Maha Mantra, and the Om Mani Padme Hum Mantra. The Gayatri Mantra is a powerful mantra that is believed to purify the mind and soul. The Maha Mantra, also known as the Hare Krishna Mantra, is a mantra that is chanted to invoke the names of God. The Om Mani Padme Hum Mantra is a Tibetan Buddhist mantra that is believed to bring compassion and wisdom.
Harnessing the Power of Sound: Using Mantra as an Autistic Shield
The Mangala Charan Mantra, a powerful Vedic chant, has served as a protective shield for centuries. Try invoking its energy next time you would benefit from a barrier against overwhelming sensory input and social stress.
When chanted with intention, this mantra will support you in entering any situation aglow with the authority of compassion. Take a moment now to connect with your inner strength and radiate kindness, while you chant this mantra. See if you would like to carry that feeling with you into your day.
